Blog Tour & Giveaway: Religious Mystery Thrillers by Ken Fry

Genre: Historical Mystery Thriller
AMAZON UK TOP 10 RELIGIOUS MYSTERY
A modern-day suspense thriller with a medieval mystery.
A LEGEND TO SLAUGHTER FOR…
A TRUTH TO DIE FOR…
The Lazarus Succession takes readers to the ancient scene of
Christ’s greatest miracle, to medieval Spain, and back to modern-day
Europe. In typical Ken Fry style, nothing is as it seems and a
surprise awaits at every turn of the page.
According
to legend, Annas Zevi, an artist who witnessed the raising of
Lazarus, was told by Christ to paint what he saw. Over the centuries,
his completed works has vanished, along with every other painting
depicting Lazarus’ resurrection. They were rumoured to be sacred
icons
with miraculous powers.
International Art Recovery Experts, Broderick Ladro and Ulla Stuart, are
hired by a disgraced High Court judge, Sir Maxwell Throgmorton, to
locate a long lost medieval painting by Spanish artist Francisco
Cortez. Like Zevi, his work is said to be divinely inspired.
Throgmorton’s client, a wealthy Spanish Condesa, is terminally ill and
the icon is her last hope. She will pay and do whatever it takes to
find the missing work of Cortez.
Unbeknown to the Condesa, Throgmorton seeks to make a vast personal fortune
from the discovery of the paintings, and use it to reclaim his place
in society.
Ladro and Stuart learns of Throgmorton’s deceit and attempts to thwart his
plans. As they delve deeper into the mystery of the missing Cortez
painting, they discover a secret that changes their lives
forever.
Just as it changed the lives of everyone it touched across the centuries.
Praise for The Lazarus Succession
“…the supernatural elements, and their effect on the characters, are pure
genius. Even an old cynic like me was entranced. The addition of a
little historical flavour, in the shape of frequent glances into a
beautifully depicted medieval Spain, gives the novel context, and a
timeless magic I found addictive. This is polished fiction of the
highest calibre, and I’m more than happy to award 5 stars.”
Stuart Kenyon, author
“…this is an excellent novel with many twists and turns, the pacing is
perfection, the characters are wonderful and the ending couldn’t be
better. If you want a riveting tale that will hold you in thrall from
the first page to the last, then this is your book.”
Carol Marrs Phipps, author
“The Lazarus Succession has a great historical and religious foundation
combined with a dynamic plot, twists, and turns. Ken Fry knows how to
keep the reader’s attention and trigger their emotional response.”

The Patmos Enigma
by Ken Fry
Genre: Historical Mystery Thriller
With the success of his UK Top 10 bestselling religious mystery, The
Lazarus Succession, Ken Fry once again crafts
a cunning and
explosive historical thriller
unlike any you’ve read
before.

Tel Aviv, Israel. Archaeologist
Joshua Agar makes a stunning discovery when on one of his excavation
sites, they unearth an ancient ossuary, untouched
since the day it was buried. Evidence and analysis reveals that the
contents of the find appear to be the six of the Seven Seals
mentioned in the bible’s Book of Revelation.
The Seventh is missing.
Meanwhile, a mysterious man has
been walking the Earth for millennia. He waits…
amassing knowledge and power, seeking to bring about the one event
that would release him from his endless existence. With
the discovery in Tel Aviv, his waiting might soon be over.
Joshua Agar and his team, Professor Simon Rockwell and Dr. Rachel Carver
soon realises the significance of their find. An ancient society
known as The Keepers awakens, and they are after the Seven Seals. For
it has been told, that whosoever breaks the seven seals will
have unimaginable power and control
over the new world
promised through the Second Coming of Christ.
The frantic hunt for the Seventh Seal begins. Through dusty caves, ancient churches,
and even within the most secretive vault on earth, they search
for clues
to the possible resting place of the missing
seal.
The archaeologists are not alone. Another ancient secret
brotherhood called the Guardians have long protected the Seven Seals,
since the time John of Patmos entrusted to them the Seventh. Using
their resources, they attempt to discover the identity of The Grand
Keeper and impede his plans for global upheaval.
As scientists, the archaeologists perceive their discovery as a
historical relic and not a religious find. But with the
forces aroused by the unearthing of the artefact
, they start to
question if there is indeed truth in the story.
The Patmos Enigma will take you on a journey of wonders and thrills as it
hurtles from dark truths to enlightening revelations as
the war between science and mysticism commences.

LOVE ON THE VINE
by Roxanne Smith
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Pub Date: 7/18/2017
Love is in bloom . . .
Straightforward Kay
Bing has never been one for subterfuge, although she did embellish
her resume just a bit to land a design job at Free Leaf Concepts, a
cutting edge botanicals firm. Determined to make a good first
impression, she’s exploring the highly secure company greenhouse
when her assistant—the much too attractive Oliver Pierce—confides
that he’s actually working undercover to investigate whether Free
Leaf has created a potent new street drug. Kay doesn’t believe it
for a minute—until someone plants designer mushrooms in her salad.
Suddenly she and her sexy colleague are teaming up to unearth the
roots of a dangerous operation . . .

Oliver not only has
a personal stake in the investigation, his entire career in law
enforcement is on the line. Stubborn, sensible Kay is a distraction
he can’t afford, but as they dig deeper into the case, they
discover a chemistry that’s too heated to deny. When even one wrong
move could be deadly, Oliver may have to risk it all to keep Kay from
harm—and convince her they should be partners for good.
x
x

The Free Leaf Concepts building was a narrow silver spire that stabbed into Little Rock’s hazy blue downtown sky like it was trying to pick a fight with the clouds. Aggressive, bold, but innovative and inspiring, too. Everything was chrome and shiny outside, as if they wanted to blast their clients in the face with the good stuff the moment they walked into the foyer. It worked. The lobby was a spectacle. The concrete and shiny metal of the outside world, from the dirty sidewalks to the old brick grandfather buildings lining the streets, were a million miles away as soon as Kay stepped through the mirrored doors, etched with Free Leaf’s chrome leaf emblem.

Crimson chrysanthemums were arranged around copper sculptures and red velvet couches in the waiting area. The fixtures and lighting were all shades of gold and honey. It was vibrant, masterfully done, and Kay wanted to touch everything.

“I’ve never seen chrysanthemums that shade,” she breathed to the receptionist when she came to gather Kay. “I mean, red is common enough, but that…Well, that’s not red. That’s fresh blood. I’ve seen fresh blood, I would know.”

The receptionist’s eyes widened slightly. Kay cleared her throat and stood up straight. She might look like a particularly wise fourteen-year-old, but Neve had taught her a thing or two about commanding herself. Kay had spent the last year taking orders and doling them out under her mentor’s watchful eye. With Neve backing her, Kay had never lacked for confidence. Now, there was no mean lady over her shoulder, daring someone not to take the five-foot-nothing Kay Bing seriously. She was on her own here. She couldn’t just rely on Neve—she had to be Neve.

The receptionist watched her curiously. Kay held back a heavy sigh. She’d never been good at first impressions. She offered the receptionist a bland smile. “Never mind. Long story. Hi, I’m Kay Bing. You should be expecting me. Or, at least, someone should.”

The woman smiled back. She had on a turtleneck dress with cap sleeves in a shade near exact to the sofa, and a clear clipboard tucked against one jutting hip. “I’m Brit. And you’ve probably never seen chrysanthemums like that because that particular shade was  manufactured in house.   We have a remarkable botanist. His lab takes up the entire third floor. Please, follow me.”

Kay tried hard to keep her excitement in check, but it thrummed through her like an electric guitar. “In house?” she repeated. “You have your own botanist? Wow. You know, I dig the monochrome, but a few pale yellow tulips would really—”

“No tulips,” Brit interjected apologetically. “Company policy. Too

common. One of the most cultivated flowers in the world. Free Leaf Concepts prides itself on ‘top shelf’ fauna, if you will.” Then she pulled a face, sticking out her tongue in a small grimace. “At least, that’s the line  I feed clients. We do, of course, pander to special requests, but it requires ordering through a third party.”

“Got it. No tulips.” Kay’s enthusiasm wilted a little as she followed Brit. She was going to work for a bunch of flower snobs. Tulips were wonderful and hardy. She hated to think how they felt about daffodils.

BLURB:

A duchess disguised as a lady’s maid; a gentleman parading as a highwayman.
She’s on the run from a murderer, he’s in pursuit of one…

In a remote Norfolk manor, Phoebe, Lady Cavanaugh is wrongfully accused by her servants of her brutal husband’s murder.

There’s little sympathy in the district for the duchess who’s taken a lover and made clear she despised her husband. The local magistrate has also vowed revenge since Lady Cavanaugh rebuffed his advances.

When Phoebe is discovered in the forest wearing only a chemise stained with the blood of her murdered husband, she persuades the noble ‘highwayman’ who rescues her that she is Lady Cavanaugh’s maidservant.
Hugh Redding has his own reasons for hunting down the man who would have Phoebe tried and hanged for murder. He plans to turn ‘the maidservant with aspirations above her station’ into the ‘lady’ who might testify against the very villain who would see Phoebe dead.

But despite the fierce attraction between Phoebe and the ‘highwayman’, Phoebe is not in a position to admit she’s the ‘murderous duchess’ hunted across the land.

Seizing an opportunity to strike at the social and financial standing of the man who has profited by her distress, Phoebe is drawn into a dangerous intrigue.

But when disaster strikes, she fears Hugh will lack the sympathy or understanding of her unusual predicament to even want to save her a second time.

Excerpt:

Chapter One

It was an evening like any other: dull with a hint of menace and tension so thick Phoebe imagined slicing a neat hole in it and disappearing magically into a new life.
Any would do.
The company had retired to the dim, close drawing room, gentlemen included, following a gluttonous dinner. By the fireplace Phoebe worked at her embroidery, glad to be ignored though she knew that wouldn’t last for long.
The reprieve was even briefer than she’d anticipated. Brutus exhaled on a shuddering snore truncated by a yelp as he chased rabbits in his dreams; this caused James the footman, who was stooping over Ulrick in the act of offering his master a drink, to jump in fright and deposit a snifter of brandy upon her husband’s waistcoat. Not that it would concern Ulrick who was snoring more loudly than Brutus and whose waistcoat was already stained with drool.
The footman cast the mistress a sideways glance as he unwound his lordship’s stock and dabbed at the sticky mess but Phoebe held her tongue and made do with a dispassionate look. She’d never liked James. She was certain he’d conspired with Ulrick on more than a few occasions to put her on the back foot and to tarnish her name below stairs. Despite her obvious disdain, she was afraid of the power he wielded.
“That will be all, James.” She rose with a dismissive wave and the rustle of silken skirts. “I’ll attend to my husband. Please see Mr Barnaby and Sir Roderick out.”
Sir Roderick, that most unwelcome of neighbours, appeared before her, bony and wraithlike; malevolent as ever. “I believe your dog that needs more attention than Lord Cavanaugh.” His thin mouth turned up in a parody of amusement as he wafted a fastidious hand about his nose, indicating Brutus’s greater guilt than his master’s snoring.
Phoebe offered Sir Roderick a cold smile. On the other side of the room Ulrick’s two other guests conversed in low voices by the window.
She inclined her head as she ignored his attempt at levity. “Good night, Sir Roderick.”
Sir Roderick straightened his spare, weedy frame, which she saw trembled with supressed outrage at being so summarily dismissed by the lady of the house.

Phoebe refused to turn away from his challenging gaze. Sir Roderick was another who couldn’t wait until the doors of Blinley Manor were closed against her the moment Ulrick breathed his last. She’d offended his honour, having bitten his lip and kneed him in the groin six months before when he’d accosted her in a dimly lit corridor and suggested in lewd terms how he might assist in the creation of an heir for the already ailing Ulrick. An heir that would ensure Phoebe kept a roof over her head.

 Author Info:

Beverley Oakley was seventeen when she bundled up her first her 500+ page romance and sent it to a publisher. Unfortunately drowning her heroine on the last page was apparently not in line with the expectations of romance readers so Beverley became a journalist.
Twenty-six years later Beverley was delighted to receive her first publishing contract from Robert Hale (UK) for a romance in which she ensured her heroine was saved from drowning in the icy North Sea.
Since 2009 Beverley has written more than thirteen historical romances, mostly set in England during the early nineteenth century. Mystery, intrigue and adventure spill from their pages and if she can pull off a thrilling race to save someone’s honour – or a worthy damsel from the noose – it’s time to celebrate with a good single malt Scotch.
Beverley lives with her husband, two daughters and a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy the size of a pony opposite a picturesque nineteenth century lunatic asylum. She also writes Africa-set adventure-filled romances tarring handsome bush pilot heroes, and historical romances with less steam and more sexual tension, as Beverley Eikli.

“Get him to his feet,” Sarah ordered.

“Watch my shoulder,” Jedediah said. “Hurts like a son of a bitch.”

Sarah slipped beneath his wounded arm while Bobby Ray slipped under the other one. They led Jedediah to a seat that hadn’t been overturned during the fight.

The cowboy knelt before him, pulling back Jedediah’s shirt to scrutinize the wound. His face remained hidden by the wide brim of his hat. He wore hide boots whose origin Jedediah could only speculate and his skin smelled like fire.

“It’s not too deep,” the cowboy said. “Won’t take me a minute.” He pressed his large flat palm against the wound.

Jedediah bit the inside of his cheek to keep from screaming. His mouth pooled with the iron-taste of his own blood.

The cowboy lifted his hand.

Jedediah stared as the gaping holes in his flesh were completely healed; the tear in his blood soaked shirt was all that remained. “Well, I’ll be damned.”

“Be careful, bartender. You don’t meant it.” He leaned over the body of what had once been Frances Deveaux and whatever had tried to eat Jedediah. “This one’s dead.”

“Course he is,” Bobby Ray said. “You killed him.”

“No. This man’s been dead.” The cowboy rolled the body on to its stomach with the steel-tipped toe of his boot. “Was before he walked through those doors.” Continue reading

He took a moment to admire her. She wore the pretty white dress

she’d worn that night when they’d met in the hotel restaurant and he

had been determined to send her packing. A lot had changed since

then. Lucky me, he mused as he took the music box out of her hands.

He placed it on the chest of drawers and restarted the song.

As “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” started to play again, he

reached out his hand to her. “May I have this dance?”

For a moment, it appeared her breath halted before she took his

hand. “Yes. Yes,” she repeated as if she had agreed to more than just

a dance.

They settled against one another as they waltzed around the nursery

in small steps, a couple forward and backward since there was little

open space. “We need a bigger room,” he said as they bumped

into the armoire.

“This is fine,” she whispered. She began to softly sing the lyrics

to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

He smiled. He loved for her to sing to him, and as she sang about

dreams coming true, he glanced at the picture of himself holding

John Aaron. The baby was a dream come true, and so was the woman

in his arms. He sensed a shift in her as she slid her hand from his and

roped both of her arms around his neck as they swayed to the music.

“We should call it a night,” he murmured.

He shut off the light in the nursery as they headed across the hall

to their bedroom . . .

The Freedom Broker

Genre: Thriller
KIDNAP & RANSOM
IN-DEPTH RESEARCH FOR CANADIAN AUTHOR’S DEBUT INTERNATIONAL THRILLER
There are twenty-five elite kidnap negotiators in the world. Only one is a
woman. And she’s the best in the business. Meet Thea Paris in THE
FREEDOM BROKER.
With over 40,000 reported kidnappings every year—which
translates to five people every hour
—the
world of kidnap and ransom is taking on a newsworthy role across the
globe. Displaced military and police in third world countries have no
way to put food on the table, but they do have security skills, so
they have turned to kidnapping as a way of making a living. Also,
terrorists are using kidnapping as a fundraising enterprise, filling
their coffers with over 125 million dollars since 2009. Kidnappers
used to only abduct high net-worth individuals and executives of
multi-national organizations. Not anymore. Journalists, aid workers,
and family members of executives have now become high value targets.
Kidnapping is a growing international crisis. What tools do we have to fight
against this increasing threat? There are twenty-five elite kidnap
negotiators who travel to the globe’s hotspots to bring hostages
home, through negotiation or recovery, and they are called response
consultants or freedom
brokers
. Local to Toronto, author K.J. Howe has immersed herself in the world
of kidnapping for the last three years, interviewing kidnap
negotiators, former hostages, kidnap and ransom insurance executives,
hostage reintegration experts, psychiatrists specializing in the
captive’s mindset, and the Special Forces soldiers who deliver
ransoms and execute rescues.
Howe’s research culminates into her debut thriller, THE FREEDOM BROKER,
published by the Hachette Book Group under the Quercus imprint in the
US, Canada, U.K. and many foreign territories. The book has reached
attention North America wide, and has led to reviewers such as #1
NYT Bestseller James Patterson
calling
it “fact and fiction at its best.”
 x
x
K.J. Howe’s novel has received positive and international acclaim from some of North
America’s most influential mediums and authors including:

TIME Magazine called the book a “Dark Delight.”

#1 NYT Bestseller Lee Child endorses
the book: “Razor sharp and full of you-are-there authenticity—a
superb thriller.”

NYT Bestseller Linwood Barclay shares, “Breathless
action, great characters, and convincing details make Howe’s debut
a surefire rocket to the top of the lists.”

In The Providence Journal,
USA Today Bestselling author Jon Land reviews,
“The
Freedom Broker is a blisteringly original, superbly crafted thriller
that promises to be one of the major debuts of 2017. K.J. Howe’s
gut-wrenching foray into the world of hostage negotiation turned
upside down propels her straight into the league of Linda Fairstein,
Tess Gerritsen, Lisa Scottoline, and Karin Slaughter, thanks to a
tale framed by an emotional complexity and structural elegance both
rare for the genre. As riveting as it is bracing, this is reading
entertainment at its absolute best.”

his heart is filled with hope for the future—a future that is as
combustible as the powerful attraction between them. For Leira is
marked for death by the very forces who killed his mother. The very
darkness that stole everything he held most dear. Only this time,
Julian is stronger, more in control of his powers than ever. But will
it be enough to save Leira from those who would destroy her?

Emily slipped her phone into her pocket. He hadn’t been lying about

leaving the hospital late. She’d watched him walk out the door. She’d spent

a lot of time watching him and not enough doing anything. The times

they were together they got as close as two people could, yet Julian had

managed to keep the rest of his life completely apart from her. She was

pretty sure that no one even knew they were dating.

She sat in her car without starting it. They weren’t really dating

and she shouldn’t be feeling pissed that he’d blown her off. He was a

mark, not her lover.

He was her kill to get her full membership to the Guardians of Adam.

She closed her eyes and leaned over the steering wheel. So why hadn’t

she done it already? She should’ve done it months ago when they first met.

She’d known that he was Albah from the curl of his ears. But he was also

attractive, educated, and nothing like the egotistical magic-using maniacs

her mother had told tales about. She should’ve questioned him and killed

him two weeks ago while the undead horror was alive and killing. Now

the Albanex had vanished and she knew a Guardian hadn’t killed it. The

Albah were probably protecting it. Hiding and feeding it.

She shuddered.

How could Julian, a well-respected doctor and burns specialist, participate

in something like that? Yet it was in his blood to become an undead, blooddrinking

Albanex. She needed to find out where his father lived—which

was harder than it should have been. She’d tried.

There was a tap on her window. Her heart stopped and she almost died.

What a Guardian she was, jumping at a security guard doing his rounds.

She opened her window a crack. “Yes?”

“Just checking you’re all right, miss.” The security guard looked concerned.

Emily softened her features as though she’d seen a dying relative and

sniffed. “Yeah. Just gathering myself before I drive home.”

“Never wise to linger in the car park. Better safe than sorry.” He smiled.

He looked as though he couldn’t run down a thief even if the thief was

carrying a box full of donuts and a coffee to wash them down.

Emily nodded and obediently started her car. When he didn’t move

away, she pulled out of the bay. She needed to get home. It was late, but

no doubt her mother would want a status update.

No change. Nothing to report.

The only excuse she could give for why the Albah was still alive was

that he could lead them to more…and hopefully the Albanex.

She paid for her parking and headed out of the city. She’d go to Julian’s

place and wait to see if he came home tonight at all. That twinge in her

chest was not jealousy.

He didn’t have another lover.

He barely had time for her.

She knew the real reason Julian was still alive was because she did

fancy him just the tiniest bit. And he saved people. Maybe he wasn’t like

the other Albah.

But all Albah could become Albanex. Albanex were the vampires that

humans thought existed only in myth. Albah were more like the elves or

witches, harmless until they did the magic that would make them drink

blood and live forever. The Guardians should’ve wiped them all out 200

years ago instead of calling for a truce; then she wouldn’t be in this position.

Doctor Julian Ryder, for all his good work, was still only one magic

ritual away from becoming an undead monster.
